The Chipchase Stakes is a horse racing event that takes place at Newcastle Racecourse annually. The race, which is categorised as a Group 3 flat horse race, is run over 6 furlongs, which is just over 1,207 metres. Run in the summertime, the event usually takes place in late June but has run in early July on several occasions. Horses must be at least three years old to compete in this prestigious race.

While a key event in modern horse racing, the event was inaugurated back in 1994 and was named after the picturesque Chipchase Castle. This is a Jacobean mansion found in the stunning surroundings of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, giving the race a traditional, distinguished feel and tone.

The race was a ‘Listed’ race initially but was upgraded to Group 3 status in 2001. This move had a hugely beneficial impact on the quality of the race and the race’s following.

Now, the Chipchase Stakes exists as one of the highlights on the English racing calendar, drawing crowds in from far and wide to see the action unfold. Due to its burgeoning levels of popularity, the event has been sponsored by some significant brands, with businesses of various industries and sectors aligning themselves with the Chipchase Stakes at Newcastle. Sponsors include free bets comparison site, Free Bets, as well as Kronenbourg, Fosters, Newcastle Brown Ale and John Smith’s Extra Smooth.

The most successful horse to run the race is Tedburrow who was placed first at the 2000 and 2002 runnings. More recent winners of the Chipchase Stakes include Danzeno (2014), Aeolus (2015), Markaz (2016), Koropick (2017), Above The Rest (2018), Invincible Army (2019), Judicial (2020) and Chil Chil (2021).
